クラフト・デザインの草創期から独創的な発想で竹細工による照明器具のデザインを手がけ、「竹のあかり」として知られ高く評価される近藤昭作の50年の仕事を振り返る作品集。ゆかりの人々のエッセイも収録されています。

国立近代美術館でイサム・ノグチの「Akari」に影響を受け、その後ヤマギワより発表され自身の代表作となる「竹のあかり」の創作をはじめます。戦前は三井造船の造船設計部に席を置いていたこともあり、工業デザインの考え方を取り入れつつ、素材の特性を活かした手仕事は、今日のクラフトデザインに大きな影響を与えました。デザイナー、工芸作家、職人の3つの顔を持ち、国内外で高く評価されています。

2008年に竹のあかりシリーズは販売終了となってしまいますが、2015年メトロクスが竹のあかりシリーズを「SKランプ」として復刻し販売、弊社でもお取り扱いしています。
